Problems with annotations

The tracks at the bottom are missing

Most likely causes

  1. The track list is longer than the panel. Fix: scroll inside the track panel on the left. Drag the panel's own bar, not the page bar. The rest of the tracks come into view.
  2. A track is hidden. Fix: look for a grey row with a closed eye icon. Click the eye. The track shows again.
  3. The window is short. Fix: make the browser window taller, or press F11 for full screen. More tracks fit on the screen.

I cannot put two annotations at the same moment

Most likely causes

  1. Overlap is off for that track. Fix: click Manage Library to open the Library Manager. Find the track in your library. Click the layers icon on the track row; its tooltip reads Allow overlapping. The tooltip then reads Overlapping enabled — click to disable. You can now stack bars.
  2. You are dragging on top of an existing bar. Fix: with overlap off, start your drag on empty space in the track. A new bar appears.

Dragging feels jumpy

Most likely causes

  1. Edges snap to nearby edges. Fix: this keeps your times tidy. Zoom the timeline in to place an annotation edge freely. The bar moves in smaller steps.
  2. You grabbed the edge, not the middle. Fix: grab the middle of the bar to move it. The whole bar moves. Grab an edge to change its length.
  3. The timeline is zoomed far out. Fix: zoom in. One pixel can stand for many seconds when you are zoomed out.

Right-clicking a track does nothing

Most likely causes

  1. The track name panel has no right-click menu. Fix: click Manage Library to open the Library Manager. Right-click the row there. A menu opens with Rename and Delete.
  2. You right-clicked the timeline. Fix: the timeline has no menu either. Use the Library Manager rows instead. A menu opens there.

I cannot delete this speaker

Most likely causes

  1. It is the only speaker on the video. Fix: add a second speaker first. The delete control turns on. Every video keeps at least one speaker.
  2. You are a viewer on this project. Fix: ask the owner to make you an editor.

Deleting a speaker removed its annotations

Most likely causes

  1. Annotations belong to a speaker. Fix: this is by design and cannot be undone. Move the work to another speaker tab before you delete. See the guide "Delete a speaker".

All my old annotations sit under one speaker

Most likely causes

  1. Speaker tabs came later. Fix: you do not need to do anything. Nothing is lost. Every older annotation now sits under Speaker 1. Add more speakers when you want to split the work.

I closed the tour and cannot get it back

Most likely causes

  1. The tour shows only once per browser. Fix: there is no button to start it again yet. Read the guide "Find your way around the annotator" instead. You can also clear this site's data in your browser. The tour runs once more.

If the screen shows an error message, look it up in All error messages.

If it still does not work: contact support. Include the page address from the browser bar, the date and time, your browser and its version, the exact words on the screen, and what you clicked.
