Error messages: not saved
The messages the annotator shows when it cannot save an annotation. The full list is in All error messages.
Not saved
Every message on this page reaches you in the same way. The annotation turns pale and gets a dashed border. A small dot sits in its top right corner. Point at the annotation with the mouse to read the message. The words Not saved — come first. The reason comes after them.
An amber border means GRAPE MARS tries again. It makes 3 tries: after 1 second, after 2 seconds, and after 4 seconds. A red border means it does not try again. If all 3 tries fail, the message becomes Couldn't save after several attempts — this change isn't stored.
What to do: reload the page. GRAPE MARS keeps a copy of your work on your computer. A clock button then appears in the annotator toolbar. Click the clock button. Then click Restore session. Autosave explains how this copy is made.
Couldn't reach the server
The whole message is Couldn't reach the server — retrying…
When you see it: in the annotator, when the server has a problem.
What it means: the server answered, but it could not do the work.
What to do: wait a few minutes. GRAPE MARS tries 3 times by itself.
Couldn't save after several attempts
The whole message is Couldn't save after several attempts — this change isn't stored.
When you see it: in the annotator, after all 3 tries fail.

When you see it: in the annotator, when you change or delete an annotation.
What it means: somebody else deleted this annotation, or your page is old.
What to do: reload the page. Make the annotation again if you still need it.
Couldn't save this annotation
The whole message names a number, such as Couldn't save this annotation (403). Your change isn't stored.
When you see it: in the annotator, when the server refuses the change.
What it means: the number is the code the server sent. GRAPE MARS does not try again.
What to do: reload the page. Send support the number.

The whole message is You have view-only access to this project — annotations can't be saved.
