Problems with transcription
It stops and says the audio is too big
Most likely causes
- The audio is over 10 MB. Fix: the screen reads
Audio is 14MB — maximum is 10MB. Try a shorter video. The number changes with your file. Cut the video into shorter parts. Then transcribe each part. Each part runs on its own. Roughly 10 minutes of speech fits in 10 MB. - The file has very high quality sound. Fix: save it again with normal sound quality, then upload that copy. The run starts.
Only part of my video was transcribed
Most likely causes
- The file has a very high bit rate. Fix: save a normal-quality copy and upload it. The whole video transcribes. A short 4K clip can carry more data than a long plain one.
- The speech is quiet or noisy. Fix: check the end of the transcript. Add the missing lines yourself. See the guide "Edit a transcript line".
- Someone stopped the run. Fix: start it again from the transcript panel. The run picks up from the start.
The transcript starts late and misses the opening
Most likely causes
- The video opens with silence. Fix: type the first lines yourself. The transcript covers the opening. You can also trim the silence and upload the file again.
The text shows sentences, not words
Most likely causes
- The panel is showing an old version of the page. Fix: leave the video, then open it again. The new text loads with word timing.
- The transcript came from an import or a file. Fix: run Transcribe to get word-level timing. The panel shows single words. Imported text has line times only.
Words stop lighting up as the video plays
Most likely causes
- The transcript has no word times. Fix: run Transcribe again. The words light up in step with the sound. Only AI text carries word times.
- The page has been open a long time. Fix: reload the page. The words light up again.
It asks me for an AI key
Most likely causes
- Your tab is showing an old version of the page. Fix: reload the page. Press Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows, or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac. The key box no longer appears. Transcription needs no key now.
- You are looking at the AI key cards in Settings. Fix: you do not need a key for transcription. The AI Transcription card in Settings shows Included free. Keys are only for AI suggestions on tracks; see AI key. See the guide "Choose how transcription runs".
The transcript I typed is gone
Most likely causes
- You left the row before it saved. Fix: press Enter, or click away from the box. A tick appears beside the line.
- You ran Transcribe again. Fix: a new run replaces the old text. Export a copy first next time.
