Track

A track is one row in the timeline. Each track shows the annotations of one annotation type. Each track has 2 settings.

The first setting says what the track measures. A count track counts how many annotations you made. A duration track measures how long they last. The second setting says where the value comes from. On a library track you pick a sub-type from a list. On a free-text track you type your own words. The 2 settings are independent. A free-text track is still either a count track or a duration track.

Example: A lesson video has 3 tracks. One holds teacher gaze, one holds student talk, and one is a free-text duration track for the notes the coder writes by hand.

Why it matters in GRAPE MARS

The track is where you work. You drag on a track to mark a moment, and the row keeps that one type apart from the rest. Count tracks and duration tracks also give you different numbers later, in your charts and your exports.
