How AI keys work and who pays
Find out which AI features cost you money and which are free. Read this before you connect a key of your own.
Before you start
- An AI key is a long password an AI company gives you.
- GRAPE MARS works with Mistral AI and with Google Gemini.
- You add a key in Settings, on the AI Services tab.
What is free
Transcription is free to you. So is tagging. Both run on the site's own service, and GRAPE MARS never asks you for a key to use them.
If a screen asks you for a key before a transcription, something is wrong. See It asks me for an AI key.
What you pay for
Work that uses your own key is billed to you by that company. GRAPE MARS takes no money and adds no fee. It only passes the work on.
Your key covers your work alone. A colleague in the same project adds their own key for theirs. There is no shared account and no shared bill.
How your key is stored
GRAPE MARS asks the company whether the key works before it keeps it. It then locks the key away, and it never shows it again, to you or to anyone else. Disconnect deletes it.
Watch what you spend
The card for each company shows Usage (last 30 days): the number of runs, the words used and the cost. It reads "No usage yet" before your first run.
Check this card before a long session, and again after it. Your bill comes from the company, not from GRAPE MARS, so their site is the last word.
Before you send footage abroad
Your key sends your material to that company's computers. Google Gemini runs in the United States. Check what the people in your videos agreed to before you use it.
Check it worked
The card shows a green Connected badge, and the usage figures rise after your first run.
