Import (GRAPE and ELAN)
What this screen is for: 2 windows that bring old work into GRAPE MARS.
Import Legacy GRAPE MARS Project
This window opens from the Projects page. It has 4 phases, and the line under the title names the one you are in.
- Select folder: "Select your GRAPE MARS project folder". A large dashed box tells you the folder should hold a
librariesfolder and adatafolder. - Preview: "Found N video(s) in "X"". Three regions sit here: a blue strip for your old library with counts for its categories, annotation types and sub-types; a purple strip with a row for each video, its length, its annotations and its segments; and a pale purple Import summary strip with the totals for the videos you ticked. Click a category to open its types. Click a video row to take its tick away. Select all and Deselect all work on the whole list.
- Importing: "Importing…". A bar, a percentage and a line of text name the current step.
- Done: "Project imported successfully". The window lists Annotation Types, Videos, Annotations and Transcript Segments, with Start Annotating and View Project.
At the foot of the preview phase sit ← Choose different folder, Cancel and Import 3 Videos. The number matches your ticks.
Import ELAN File
This window opens from the Import menu in the annotator toolbar. It has 2 stages.
- Select ELAN (.eaf) File: a file box. GRAPE MARS reads
.eaffiles only. - Map ELAN Tiers to Annotation Types: 1 row per tier. Each row has a box where you pick one of your own annotation types. A colour square shows the type's colour. (Until the next update every tier creates a new type; the list of your own types is empty.)
Under the rows sits the box Automatically create new annotation types for unmapped tiers. It is ticked at the start. Clear it and a yellow warning appears until every tier has a type.
At the foot sit Cancel and Import Annotations.
