Import a project from the old GRAPE
Move one project from the old GRAPE MARS into the new site, with its library, its videos and its annotations.
Before you start
- Find the old project folder on your own computer. It holds a
librariesfolder and adatafolder. - Each video sits in its own folder inside
data. That folder holds aproject.jsonfile and an.mp4file. - Import one project folder at a time. Do not pick a folder of folders.
- Do not pick a zip file. Unzip it first.
- Read What imports keep and what they lose before you start.
Steps
- Open the Projects page. GRAPE MARS lists your projects. With no projects yet, the page shows an Import Legacy card in place of the arrow menu below.
- Click the small arrow next to New Project. A short menu opens.
- Click Import Legacy Project. The window Import Legacy GRAPE MARS Project opens.
- Click Select GRAPE MARS Project Folder. Your computer asks you to pick a folder.
- Select the old project folder. Your browser asks you to allow the upload. Say yes.
- Wait for the preview. The window lists your library and your videos.
- Click any video you do not want. The tick goes away and the row turns grey.
- Click Import 3 Videos. The number matches the videos you ticked.
- Wait for the bar to fill. The text names each step, such as "Uploading video 1 of 3".
The progress has two parts. Files show a percentage. Saved annotations show a count, such as "Saving annotations for my-video… (30/140)".
Check it worked
The window says "Project imported successfully". Under it you read four rows: Annotation Types, Videos, Annotations and Transcript Segments. Click Start Annotating to open a video, or View Project to see the whole project.
The project takes the name of your folder.
If something goes wrong
- Nothing came in from my old folder
- Everything came in except one video
- I now have two projects and one is empty
This doesn't look like a GRAPE MARS project folderFound project.json files but none could be parsed successfully.Warning: Could not upload to cloud storage
