How saving works

Learn when GRAPE MARS has stored your work, and what to do when a bar is not saved.

There is no save button

GRAPE MARS uses autosave. Each change you make to an annotation goes to the server at once. Your library is different: it is stored when you click Apply Library.

When a save fails

GRAPE MARS tries again 3 times, after 1 second, 2 seconds and 4 seconds. A bar that is not stored looks different on the timeline:

  • A dashed amber edge means GRAPE MARS is still trying.
  • A dashed red edge means it has stopped trying.

Point at the bar to read why. A dot with an exclamation mark sits in its top corner, in the same colour as the edge.

Bring back a session

  1. Open the video again. An amber clock icon appears in the toolbar if a session was kept.
  2. Click the clock icon. A menu shows the date and time of that session.
  3. Click Restore session. The kept annotations and transcript segments come back.

Click Discard instead to drop the kept copy. Discard is safe when the timeline already shows everything you expect.

Check it worked

The dashed edge is gone and the bar looks like the rest. Reload the page to be sure: the page then shows what the server holds.
