Read chart values and get the numbers out
Read the exact figure behind any bar or square in a chart, and get every figure out as a file.
Before you start
Steps
- Open a workspace that has charts. The modules draw on the page.
- Open the chart and move the pointer onto a bar or a square. A small box shows the name and the value.
- Click Export at the top right. GRAPE MARS saves an Excel file with the same figures.
Check it worked
The small box under the pointer names the row and gives its value, such as "Gesture: 34". Bar, stacked, heatmap and area charts all carry these boxes. The Inter-rater Agreement cards do not: read their numbers straight off the card.
Most charts also print the value next to the bar, so you may not need to point at all.
The Excel file holds one sheet per module, and the sheets carry the same numbers as the charts. That file is the way to take figures into your own tools. See Export a workspace to Excel.
Getting a chart into a document
GRAPE MARS has no button that saves a chart as a picture, and it has no per-module data file. Two routes remain.
- Take a screen picture of the chart yourself, and place it in your document. On a Mac press Shift, Command and 4 together. On Windows press the Windows key, Shift and S together.
- Send the numbers to Excel, and draw your own chart there. This keeps the figures editable, which most journals prefer.
The Word report holds text and tables only, with no pictures of charts. See Create a Word report. The PDF Report in Export Data does draw a few bars, but it is a fixed summary, not your workspace. See Print or save as PDF.
