What tagging gives you

Learn what tagging adds to a transcript: you can then search it by word class, not only by letters.

Before you start

• A video with a transcript.
• A language set on that video. See Declare a language to start tagging.

Steps

1. Open the video in the annotator. The chip in the transcript panel header shows the state.
2. Wait for the chip to read Tagged · es. The code at the end is the language you set.
3. Open a workspace in the same project. Your modules can now use the words.

Check it worked

Tagging reads every word and stores 3 things about it:

• the lemma, the dictionary form, so "ran" and "running" sit with "run";
• the part of speech, such as noun or verb;
• whether the word is a named entity, such as a person or a place.

The concordance module then finds a word in all its forms. The linguistic module counts word classes for you.

Tagging is quick. Most videos take a few seconds.

If something goes wrong

• Word search finds nothing
• The linguistic module is empty
