Word-level timing explained
Word-level timing makes the transcript move with the sound, word by word. This page shows what it gives you.
Before you start
- A video with a transcript from an AI run. Only an AI run gives word-level timing.
Steps
- Open the video in the annotator. The header of the transcript panel shows a small word sync badge.
- Press the play button. Each word lights up as it is said. The words behind it turn gray.
- Click any word in the panel. The video jumps to that word.
Check it worked
The panel shows one long run of words, not a list of boxes. That is the word view.
Text from a file has line times only. The panel then shows a box for each segment, and the foot of the panel reads Word-level sync available after AI transcription.
Word times matter for your analysis too. With them, a concordance module can place a hit at the exact word. Without them it can only place it at the line.
To gain word times on old text, run Transcribe again.
