Search words by lemma, form, part of speech or named entity

Find every place a word is spoken, with the words around it. Search by dictionary form, exact form, word class or name type.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Click the settings button of a Concordance module. A panel opens under Searching for.
  2. Click Words in the pair of buttons. The panel shows 4 word settings.
  3. Type a dictionary form in Lemma, such as "correr". The hits appear below.
  4. Type an exact form in Surface form to narrow the search, such as "corriendo". Only that form stays.
  5. Select one or more values under Part of speech. Only words of that class stay.
  6. Select one or more values under Entity type. Only names of that kind stay.

Check it worked

Each line shows a video name, a time, the word class of the hit, and the words around it.

The 4 settings work together. A word must meet every setting you fill in. Within one setting, any of your choices will do. Leave a setting empty to accept anything.

  • Lemma finds all forms of the word. See lemma.
  • Surface form finds the exact word as spoken.
  • Part of speech uses codes such as NOUN and VERB. See part of speech.
  • Entity type uses codes such as PER, LOC and ORG. See named entity.

Words mode reads only videos that tagging has finished. A video with a transcript but no tags is not searched. An amber notice tells you how many videos it skipped.

A grey notice appears when there are too many hits to show. Narrow the search to see the rest.
