Roles: owner, editor, viewer

Learn what an owner, an editor and a viewer may do in a project, and read your own role.

Before you start

  • You need to belong to the project. Open it from your project list.

Steps

  1. Open the project page. The Project Details card shows Owner and Your Role. The Collaborators panel is further down the page.
  2. Wait for the list to load. Each person has a badge: Owner for the owner, Member for everyone else.

The 3 roles work like this:

  • Owner: the person who made the project. The owner can add and remove people, change the project, and delete it.
  • Editor: can make, change and delete annotations on the videos of the project. An editor cannot add or remove people.
  • Viewer: can read the work but cannot save changes.

The people you invite today all join as editors. The badge in the panel reads Member, and the role behind it is editor. There is no way to invite a viewer from the screen. If a viewer tries to save, GRAPE MARS answers "Insufficient permissions".

A role does not hide who did the work. GRAPE MARS keeps the name of the coder on each annotation.

Check it worked

Your Role reads Owner, and the Collaborators panel shows an Add collaborator button. Then you may add and remove people. If your role is editor, that button is not there. The panel says instead: "Only the project owner can add or remove collaborators."

In the annotator's collaborator popover (toolbar Invite or In this session), the add and remove controls show for everyone. A non-owner sees the owner-only message only after they click. A fix is planned.
