Export a transcript

Save a video's transcript as a file on your computer, to read it or to use it in another tool.

Before you start

  • A video that has a transcript.

Steps

  1. Open the video in the annotator. The transcript panel sits at the right of the player.
  2. Click the arrow in the panel header. Its label reads Export transcript. A short menu opens.
  3. Select one of .txt (plain text), .srt (subtitles) or .json (full data). Your browser saves the file.

Check it worked

The file is in the folder your browser uses for downloads. Its name is transcript.txt, transcript.srt or transcript.json.

Each form holds a different amount:

  • .txt: one line for each segment, with a start time in front, such as [1:07].
  • .srt: blocks with a start and an end time, as in the subtitles lane. Video players read this form.
  • .json: every field, and the word-level timing as well.

Export a copy before you run a new AI transcription. A new run replaces the old text.
