Show the waveform and subtitles
Show 2 extra lanes at the top of the timeline: the sound as a waveform, and the speech as subtitles.
Before you start
The waveform
The waveform is the grey shape of the sound. It is always the first lane, and it has no switch. GRAPE MARS draws it from the audio the first time you open the video, then keeps it. Later visits show it at once.
Use it to find speech, silence and loud events before you look at the picture.
The subtitles lane
- Open a video that has a transcript. A lane named Subtitles appears under the waveform.
- Click a block in that lane. The video jumps to the start of that line.
- Drag the Zoom slider to the right. Wider blocks show their text.
Point at a block to read its whole text in a tooltip.
Steps if the lane is missing
- Open the transcript panel on the right of the video. An empty panel means the video has no transcript yet.
- Click Transcribe in the toolbar to make one with AI. This button is hidden once a transcript exists.
- Wait for the work to end. The Subtitles lane appears on its own.
Check it worked
The track panel lists Waveform and Subtitles above your own tracks. Both lanes scroll and zoom with the timeline.
