Appearance
Role
A role says what a person may do in a project. A project has an owner. The owner can invite people, remove them, and delete the project. The people you invite join as editors. An editor can make and change annotations. A viewer role exists in the system, but today there is no way to invite a viewer from the screen.
Example: A researcher owns a project on classroom talk. She invites 2 colleagues. Both join as editors and code the videos with her. When the study ends, she removes them from the project.
Why it matters in GRAPE MARS
The Collaborators panel of a project shows who has joined. In the Collaborators panel an editor shows the badge Member. The owner shows Owner. Only the owner can add or remove people there. GRAPE MARS keeps the name of the coder on each annotation, so a role does not hide who did the work.
